Dhaka – Shibchar Elias Ahmed Smriti Sangsad of Madaripur District clinched the Pioneer Football League title beating FC Uttarbonga of Kurigram District by 2-1 goals in the final at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Thursday.
Jafarullah Sarafat put Elias Smriti Sangsad ahead in the 21st minute, utilizing a pass of Jonny Sheikh from the danger zone (1-0).
Five minutes later, Leon Pradhan restored the parity for FC Uttarbonga by a rebounder when a free kick of his team-mate came on his way defecting opponent goal keeper (1-1).
Elias Smriti Sangsad were enough lucky to win the match by a suicidal goal in the 84th minute when Kurigram FC defender Animesh sent the ball to his own net while trying to clear an attempt of the opponent (2-1).
Jonny Sheikh of Elias Smriti Sangsad was adjudged best player of the final, Mohammad Ali of FC Uttarbonga named as the best player of the tournament, Ratul Hawlader of FC Brahmanbaria was adjudged the highest scorer netting 13 goals while Milon Miah of FC Uttar Bango named as the best goal-keeper of the league.
Top four teams of the League including champion and runners-up have earned the rights to play in the third division football league from next season. UNB
