BNP lodges complaint against move to use its logo

Opposition BNP on Thursday lodged a complaint with the Election Commission (EC) against Bangladesh Nationalist Front (BNF) for submitting an application seeking registration as a political party using BNP’s logo and portrait of its founder Ziaur Rahman. A BNP delegation, led by party standing committee member MK Anwar, met Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad at his office and raised the objection.
Talking to UNB, opposition acting chief whip Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury Anee said BNF has applied to the EC for getting registered as a political party using BNP’s logo, Ziaur Rahman’s portrait and his 19-point programme.
‘BNF simply duplicated our party’s logo and action programmes. They’ve also made posters duplicating our ones. We’ve made our verbal objection to it,” he said.
The CEC assured them of looking into the issue with due importance, Anee said adding that Rakibuddin also requested them to lodge a written complaint in this regard.
The other members of the delegation are BNP joint secretary general Barrister Mahbubuddin Khokan and former BNP MP Omar Khayyam.
A group of former BNP leaders, including Nazmul Huda and Professor Jahanara Begum, floated the party on August 2012.
Late President Ziaur Rahman formed BNP on September 1, 1978 with a 19-point programme aiming to build a self-reliant Bangladesh.
