Dhaka – BNP standing committee member ASM Hannan Shah on Saturday said they want the 11th parliament polls to be held as soon as possible as per the will of the country’s people.
“Many ministers are saying that we’re demanding mid-term polls. It’s not right. We want free, fair, credible and inclusive 11th parliament polls as soon as possible,” he said. The BNP leader came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after placing wreaths at the greave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman, marking the 7th founding anniversary of Jatiyatabadi Trinamool Dal.
Hannan Shah alleged that the ruling Awami League has hijacked people’s voting rights through the January 5 ‘voter-less’ lopsided elections. “The current regime is illegal. The country’s people and the whole world have seen how they snatched people’s voting rights.”
He also warned that if the government does not take steps for a fresh election soon, people themselves will work out their plan to restore their voting rights.
The BNP leader said the country is passing through a critical juncture as it is now under the rule of an autocrat and shameless regime. “They’re killing, oppressing and making disappeared the opposition leaders and activists by the joint forces.”
Turning to the upazila polls, Hannan Shah said they are working to ensure a single BNP candidate in every upazila election and their victory. – UNB
