BNP protests delay-dallying on its 7 Nov rally venue

Dhaka – Ruhul Kamir Rizvi, joint secretary general of the BNP has alleged that the government and the law enforcing agencies are obstructing the observance of their November 7 National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
Addresing a press briefing at the party’s bnp central office at Naya Paltan, he said that it was not clear why their seeking of Suhrawardy Udyan as the venue of the said rally was not nodded, not obstraction was being created in the way their plan to hold the programme at Naya Paltan neat the party office.He said after refusal of the Suhrawardy Udyan venue their party sought permission to use Naya Paltan as venue, but was facing uncertainties about the same. The BNP leader said that the law enforcing agencies should not be turned into instruments of the rulers instead of allowing them to work for public administration in keeping with the law.
Rizvi expressed the hope that despite all the above permission to hold their rally at Naya Paltan on Tuesday would be available. He said that there could always be differences of opinion among different political parties but a democratic culture-based society can never be built by suppressing democratic rights of the opposition through the use of force. – Staff Reporter
Meanwhile, A reminiscence discussion on “Freedom Fighter-Soldiers Killing Day” will be held at public library auditorium here at 11 am today, BSS news agency reported.
To mark the day, Khaled Mosharraf Bir Uttam Smrity Parishad will organize the discussion.
Mahjabin Khaled, MP, elder daughter of Khaled Mosharaf, slain commander of ‘K’ force of the War of Liberation in 1971 will deliver welcome address at the function that will preside by Salma Khaled, advisor of the parishad.
AKM Mozammel Haq, MP, Minister for War of Liberation War Affairs, will attend as the chief guest at the discussion.
Barrister Amir-ul-Islam, senior advocate, Bangladesh Supreme Court, Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman, President, Jatiya Press Club, Professor Haroon-or-Rashid, Vice Chancellor, National University and Mahbubuddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram will attend as special guests.
Among others, Amir Hossain Mollah, Commander, City unit of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad, Abu Sayeed Mia, commander of Dhaka District Unit, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad, Dr MSA Monsur Ahmed of sector commanders forum and a host of columnists and journalists will attend the function.
The press release signed by Mahjabin Khaled, MP, urged all to attend the function to pay respect to freedom fighters and soldiers including major General Khaled Mosharaf who were killed on November 7 in 1975, in the name of sepoy revolution, the report added.
