Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will hold its public meeting at Jatrabari in the city on Saturday protesting growing killing, enforced disappearance and abduction across the country including Narayanganj.
BNP chairperson and former premier Khaleda Zia will address the meeting as the chief guest. The meeting will be held at Shaheed Faruque Road at 2:00pm.The decision was taken at a joint meeting of city unit of BNP at Bhasani auditorium at Naya Paltan in the city.
The meeting was informed that the BNP has been taking preparation to gather about one million people in the meeting.
The programme has been shifted from Demra to Jatrabari. The BNP standing committee at a meeting on Saturday night had decided to hold public meeting at Demra.
Party standing committee member and coordinator of the meeting Toriqul Islam told the joint meeting that the decision to hold the public meeting at Jatrabari has been taken as they did not get permission from the administration.
“We have visited the Jatrabari venue on Tuesday and as per the decision of the party the meeting will take place over there,” he said.
He hoped that 10 lakh people would join the public meeting and preparation is on to make the programme a success.
The BNP leader asked the leaders of party front organizations including Chhatra Dal and Juba Dal to make the public meeting a success.
Tougher movement will be launched in future. There is no alternative to movement,” he added.
Dhaka city BNP convenor Sadeque Hossain Khoka, who presided over the joint meeting, said they would prove that the people have been awaken against the growing killing, enforced disappearance and abduction by holding a largest ever meeting at Jatrabari.
He regretted that they could not do whatever was necessity following the heinous seven murders in Narayanganj.
BNP joint secretary general Aman Ullah Aman, Barlatullah Bulu, Nazim Uddin Alam, Abdus Salam, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Narayanganj district BNP president Toimur Alam Khandaker and secretary Kazi Moniruzzaman and presidents and secretaries of different front organizations took part in the meeting. – Staff Reporter
