BNP reiterates to convey a national convention to curb militancy

Dhaka-The BNP yesterday reiterated its call to convey a national convention and forge a national unity comprising all political parties to curb militancy in the country.“The country will go towards a grave situation, if the militancy cannot be curbed immediately,” warned BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Speaking at an iftar mahfil organised by Dhaka University unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal at Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh, he said the militancy cannot be curbed keeping opposition outside.
The BNP leader accused the ruling Awami League of killing democracy and snatching democratic and voting rights of people pushing the country’s existence at stalk.
“People has no democratic and voting rights. They have no freedom of express. The BNP is not allowed to hold meeting and rally,” he alleged.
Mirza Alamgir alleged that the government has been carrying out propaganda about militancy and destroying the democratic forces in the name of curbing militancy.
“Their aim is not to curb militancy rather they want eliminate the opposition using the militancy issue. That’s why they are shifting the responsibility to the opposition instead of nabbing the real perpetrators,” he said.
He further said they are killing in the crossfire the suspected militants who were arrested.
Former vice chancellor of Dhaka University Prof Dr Emajuddin Ahmed, Prof AFM Yusuf Haider, Khairul Kabir Khokan, Shahidul Islam babul, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anie, JCD president Rajib Ahsan and general secretary Akramul Hasan, among others, also addressed, the function.-STAFF REPORTER
