BNP will not give up on efforts to find a solution to the ongoing
political impasse alive until the last moment, the party’s
spokesperson has said.
BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir says he has
written a letter to Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam
to initiate a dialogue to ease the standoff .
“I have not received any reply. Yet we will not lose hope until the
last moment,” Fakhrul told reporters at BNP’s Naya Paltan headquarters
on Wednesday.
Wednesday is the last day of the Opposition-sponsored second spell of
nationwide 60-hour shutdown.
He hoped the government would ultimately adopt the path to dialogue
but alleged they were now ‘trying to confuse the people.’
He alleged that the government was trying to link the BNP with the
Border Guard Bangladesh mutiny to divert people’s attention from the
movement.
“We want to make it clear that these confusions will not work.”
A number of top BNP leaders including Mirza Fakhrul have been at the
party’s main office for the last two days.
A large number of police and RAB personnel are deployed outside the office.
The BNP spokesperson said they are organising demonstrations for a
non-party government and waiting for government’s response to offers
for a dialogue.
He said they did not have any alternative to go on strike since the
government did not accept their demands or start a dialogue.
Mirza Fakhrul threatened that they would intensify their agitation to
‘compel’ the government to accept their demand for a restoration of
the caretaker. = bdnews24.com
