BNP to decide boycott or continuation of UP polls

BNP yesterday could not decide on whether it would boycott the ongoing Union Parishad polls as most of the senior leaders are in favor of staying in the race in the local body elections.Senior leaders at a meeting with party chairperson Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan office gave their different views both in favor of staying with the UP polls and boycotting it.
The former premier told the leaders that she would give a decision in this regard after holding a meeting with allies of 20-party alliance today and taking views of the grass roots level leaders.
The two-hour long meeting began at 9:30 thoroughly discussed the logic behind participating in the UP polls as the party leaders alleged that their victories are being snatched through violence vote rigging and ballot stuffing.
Meeting sources said the party finally may stay with participating in the polls.
Party standing committee members vice chairmen joint secretaries general and organizing secretaries attended the meeting lasted till 11:30pm.
In the last two phases of UP polls out of six phases the BNP candidates got only 108 chairman posts while the ruling Awami League received over 900 posts.
