Dhaka, Nov 16 – Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will start interviewing its nomination seekers from Sunday to finalise the candidates to contest the forthcoming general elections with its tickets.BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made this announcement at a press conference at party central office at Naya Paltan in the city yesterday.
The interview will be held at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office in the capital till November 21. The interview will begin with aspirants for Panchagarh-1 constituency under Rangpur constituency at
99:00 am on Sunday, he said.
The interview of aspirants from Rajshahi division will begin on the same day. Presidents and general secretaries of city, district and upazila units of BNP will be present in front of the interview board.
The major political opposition BNP started selling nomination papers among the aspirants from its Naya Paltan headquarters on November 12 after the Election Commission deferred the date of the upcoming national election to December 30 from December 23.
The BNP later extended the date of nomination forms distribution for its candidatures till November 16. In four days, the BNP sold over 4,000 nomination forms among the aspirants.
The EC has fixed November 28 as the deadline for filing nomination papers, December BNP sold 4,112 nomination papers over the last four days among the aspirants who want to contest the 11th parliamentary elections with its tickets.
Of the total: 1,326 forms were sold on the first day, Monday; 1,896 on Tuesday; 488 on Wednesday; and 402—as of 4pm on Thursday.
On Monday morning, the party formally started selling nomination papers with the purchase of three nomination papers for its jailed Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda, on Monday, announced the 11th general elections had been rescheduled—saying the polls will be held on December 30 instead of December 23.
The deadline to submit nomination papers is November 28 instead of November 19, he added. – Staff Reporter
