BNP has decided to stage demonstration across the country protesting massive “vote rigging” in the municipal polls and demanding resignation of the present Election Commission.
The agitational programme first of its kind after the three months long blockade enforced early this year is likely to be organised on Sunday according to meeting sources.The decision has been taken at a meeting of party’s senior leaders with chairperson Khaleda Zia at her political office in Gulshan yesterday.
The meeting also decided to reject the poll results for the partisan roles of administration and the EC and to ask the commission to resign immediately for its failure to hold the election in a free and fair manner.
Khaleda had also a similar meeting with senior leaders of the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
Party acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will announce the new course of action from a press conference at 11:00am Thursday.
Both the meetings emphasised the need for highlighting the irregularities and vote rigging in the local and international levels.
“We’re yet to discuss some other issues. We’ll inform you in details about all issues on Thursday,” said Mirza Fakhrul.
Earlier Khaleda had over an hour-long meeting with party senior leaders at her Gulshan office. The meeting began around 9pm.
Moudud Ahmed, Lt Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman, ASM Hannan Shah, Jamiruddin Sircar, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Shah Moazzem Hossain, Chowdhury Kamal-Ibne Yusuf, Abdullah Al Noman, Hafizuddin Ahmed among others were present at the meeting.
After the meeting with BNP leaders, some 20-party leaders also met the BNP chief. – Staff Reporter
