Bnp urges UN for int’l inquiry on violence, Govt to resign

The BNP-led 20-party alliance on Friday urged the United Nations to carryout an international investigation into all incidents of sabotage including extrajudicial killings, violation of human rights and petrol bomb attacks in Bangladesh.
“We want international level probe under the United Nations into all incidents of enforced disappearance, killing, abduction, random shooting and crime against humanity including sabotage, petrol bombings and extrajudicial killings,” said BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed in a statement.
He reiterated the call of 20-party alliance to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resign immediately and announce a fresh election to rescue the nation from what he said the ongoing “political disaster.”Otherwise, he warned that this opportunity may not come again if times runs out, he said.
Expressing his deep concern, the BNP leader accused the prime minister, ruling party leaders, ministers and state ministers of carrying out false propaganda to brand democratic movement as sabotage and acts of militants.
He alleged that ruling party people and their agents are being released after they are caught red handed with acts of sabotage including petrol bomb blasts.
Salahuddin strongly condemned the state minister for foreign affairs for what he said giving baseless statement over the contents of the meeting with delegation of European Parliament.
He said the people are suffering from what he said extreme sense of insecurity because the killing of people after declaration by top officials of law enforcers.
The BNP leader said the people will not bear the consequence of mistake committed by the prime minister and her party by holding a farcical election on January 5 last year.
Meanwhile, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of the BNP yesterday called for staging demonstration across the country on Sunday protesting killing, enforced disappearance, abduction and filing of false cases and demanding the release of all political prisoners including student leaders.
JCD president Rajib Ahsan and general secretary Akramul Hasan announced the programme through a statement. – Staff Reporter
