Dhaka – Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, ) secretary general , Bangladesh Nationalist Party Saturday hoped that the president, Abdul Hamid, will be able to form a neutral and competent election commission.Addressing a conference of representatives of the Zia Parishad, an associate body of the BNP, at the Engineers’ Institution he said, “The president has not yet formed the search committee. We have all along said we always do positive politics and we believe that the president is one of those who fought for democracy.”
The BNP secretary general said the president will form the search committee to fulfil the expectations of the people.
“The search committee to be formed by him will be neutral and competent and which will be able to form an appropriate election commission. We want to move forward leaving behind past rubbishes. We want to move forward to a beautiful dream.”
The BNP leader asked the party men to come forward and said the BNP must fight for establishing the people’s rights.
Terming the AL-led government a fascist and autocratic one, he alleged that the government has destroyed the state framework through politicisation.
He also alleged that the government is trying to control the judiciary.
“The rich are becoming richer and the poor poorer during the regime of this government,” he said.
Alleging that Zia’s name has been erased from the textbooks, he said the media is being forced to spearhead a smear campaign against Ziaur Rahman, former president and the founder of BNP. – News Desk
