BNP wants to hold its January 5 rally in front of party central office at Naya Paltan in the city if police administration denies its permission to hold its rally at Suhrawardy Udyan.Party sources said their countrywide demonstration programme to mark the 2nd anniversary of January 5 general polls had not been changed.
BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed yesterday told reporters that they also sent a letter to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) seeking permission for holding their planned rally in front of the party office.
Addressing a press conference at party’s Naya Paltan office in the afternoon, he however said that they are emphasising on holding the rally in Suhrawardy Udyan.
On Thursday, BNP sent another letter to the DMP seeking its permission to hold the rally in Suhrawardy Udyan.
The ruling Awami League also sought permission to hold its rally at the same venue that created a conflicting situation centering the rally called by the two opposing sides to mark the 2nd year anniversary of January 5 parliamentary polls.
Meanwhile, Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal yesterday told reporters that the law enforcing agency might give permission to BNP to hold its rally in Suhrawardy Udyan if there in no possibility of law and order situation.
Talking to journalists following a function of Fire Service and Civil Defense at Mirpur, he said it is natural for the political parties to organise their programme but the law enforcing agencies have to consider the security issue of the country.
”BNP will be given permission to hold its rally at Suhrawardy Udyan after assessing the security situation,” he said.
Earlier, DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah at a function at DMP Media Centre told reporters that none would be given permission if the programmes are conflicting in nature.
Asked about the party decision, if the BNP denied to hold its rally both the Suhrawardy Udyan or Naya Paltan, Rizvi said they would inform their programme on January 5.
He said they are waiting for the permission and also taking preparation.
The BNP leader accused the ruling Awami League pushing the situation centering the programme to mark 2nd year anniversary January 5 polls toward conflicting.
