BNP welcomes cancellation of job quota system

Dhaka, April 11 – The BNP, arch rival of the ruling Awami League, has welcome Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s announcement of cancellation of quota system in government service in the wake of movement of students and jobseekers. The party welcomes the premier’s decision since it was our morale stance to cancel the quota system. The party has included it in its Vision 2030, said party leaders.
The BNP leaders’ reactions came hours after the premier announced in Parliament that the government to abolish all sorts of quota privileges in the public service. The announcement also came subsequently amid the nationwide demonstration of student and jobseekers demanding reforms in the recruitment system.
‘It is good that the premier announced to cancel the quota system amid the students movement. If the government really implements the announcement, we will welcome it,” said BNP standing committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain.
He said the BNP has a morale stance in favour of cancellation of the quota system. We have already made our position clear through a press conference on the justification of the students’ movement, he added.
Another standing committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said it is good that the premier accepted the demand to cancel the quota system that we demanded two years ago.
“We have talked about it two years back. We mentioned it in our Vision 2030,” he said.
The BNP leader said the meritorious students have been deprived by not evaluating their merits.
He hoped that the government would take necessary measure tom implement the premier’s announcement.
