Opposition BNP-backed candidate M Motahar Hossain won the Sonaimuri Municipality mayoral polls for the second time.
Motahar Hossain bagged 4,521 votes while his nearest candidate Awami League-backed VP Nurul Haq Chowdhury got 3,788 votes.
Earlier in the day, people cast their ballots from 8:00am to 4:00pm Saturday without any interval.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer, also returning officer, Hasina Begum unofficially declared Motahar as mayor of the municipality at 8:30pm.
