BNP yesterday termed party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s proposal for holding dialogue a good gesture for the government.“The call for dialogue does not show any weakness of the on the part on the BNP. The BNP’s call for dialogue is an opportunity for the government, despite all the repressions it is unleashed (on party activists),” said BNP spokesperson Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon at a press conference at party’s central office.
His comments came hours after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s briefing to the media about the outcome of her just concluded three-day visit to Netherlands.
The premier rejected the proposal of BNP chief Khaleda Zia for holding a national dialogue to resolve the ongoing political impasse.
On Prime Minister’s observation that the government may consider holding a dialogue with BNP if it accepts the ongoing trial of war criminals and leaves the company with the Jamaat-e-Islami, he said the BNP wants of the trials of crimes against humanity but maintaining the international standard.
“The stand of the BNP is very mush clear on the trial of war criminals. BNP wants it to be held maintaining international standard but not for gaining mere political gains,” he said.
Asked whether the BNP supports the ongoing trial of crimes against humanity, he said there are many observations of international quarters about the trails. “It is the responsibility of the government to meet them,” he added.
On premier’s statement that the government is under pressure over IS issue, Ripon said the entire nation is concerned over this information and called all to work together to face possible threats.
Ripon, who is also international affairs secretary, said the BNP wants to cooperate with the government on IS issue.
“The government must hold all-party meeting, national dialogue and create national unity to save the country and its people. There is no scope for taking a rigid stand,” he added.
He called upon the government to create national unity warning that it bodes a great danger if such the politics of blame game continues without a dialogue to resolve the political crises.
