Body parts mystery: Helal killed dissected to loot his money

Dhaka, June 23 – Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has unearthed the mystery behind the sensational Helal murder case under Dakkhin Khan Police Station in the capital. The detectives solved the case after arresting the prime accused of the case Charles Rupam Sarkar from Gabtoli Bus Stand on Sunday evening.
They also recovered sharp weapons and dish antenna wire, which were used in the killing of Helal, and also recovered Tk 7,000 from Rupam’s possession, said Additional Commissioner (DB) of the DMP Md. Abdul Baten at a press briefing held at the DMP media centre on Monday.
Body parts of Helel were found in areas under the city’s Dakkhin Khan and Airport Police Stations on June 15. Later, he was identified through finger impression. The DB started shadow investigation alongside local police after a case was filed with Dakkhin Khan police station following day.
At one stage of the investigation, the detective police identified two women named Rasheda Akhter and Moni Sarkar– as involved in the incident by analyzing CCTV footage and information technology. Then they were arrested by a team of DB (Airport Zone) on June 17, Additional Commissioner (DB) Baten said.
According to their statements, the detectives recovered the severed head of the victim from a dustbin adjacent to a pond in Jamgarh area of Dakshin Khan. Besides, the detectives also recovered looted Tk 30,000 from them and also came to know when, where and how Charles Rupam, the main accused, killed the victim and separated the body parts to hide them.
Rupam was trying to go into hiding with some of the looted money, Baten said.
During the interrogation, Rupam revealed that he came to know that the victim Helal had a lot of money and he killed Helal to embezzle the money. On the afternoon of the day of the murder, Rupam called Helal through Facebook Messenger call and asked him to come to Rupam’s house to buy a photostat machine.
When Helal went to the house of Rupam, Rupam and his wife Moni Sarkar gave him tea that was mixed with two sleeping pills. At one point after drinking tea, Helal fell asleep. Later, the antenna was wrapped around the victim’s neck and the husband and wife pulled from both sides to confirm the death of the victim Helal.
After killing the victim, Rupam withdrew Tk 43,000 from the victim’s Bkash and Nogod accounts with his mobile phone. Later, Rupam sent his Wife Moni to her mother’s house giving her Tk 30,000. Then Rupam took Helal’s body to their bathroom, cut the body into pieces with a sharp knife, put it in a shopping bag at night and put the severed head in the dustbin on the water body adjacent to Bhuiyan graveyard. The next morning, Rupam went to Uttara and left the rest of the body parts in various places in Uttara.
The victim Helal was Hafez in Quran and he was a second-year student of Fazil in a madrasa in Narayanganj. Since December 2018, he had been running flexiload and mobile cards business in Dakkhin Khan area. – UNB
