The authorities on Monday suspended Sonali Bank Adamdighi branch manager Shamsuddin Sharif and its cashier Ajharul Islam in connection with the looting of Tk 32.51 lakh from the branch.
“Shamsuddin and Ajharul have been suspended as per the directives of the higher authorities,” said Abdus Samad, deputy general manager (DGM) of Sonali Bank Bogra zonal office. Earlier, the duo was arrested on Sunday.However, the money looted by burglars in a filmy style after digging a tunnel into the bank vault is yet to be recovered.
Gaziur Rahman, assistant police super in Bogra, said members of Detective Branch of police are conducting special drives to recover the looted money.
The daring heist came to light on Saturday when employees of the bank’s Adamdighi upazila branch entered the vault room around 5pm.
The thugs dug the underground tunnel from a nearby furniture shop, ‘Biplob Furniture Mat’, to the bank vault. – UNB
