Boro procurement drive on in Southwest region

The government has started procuring 77,836 tonnes of Boro rice and
18,271 tonnes of paddy from 10 districts of the country’s
south-western region during this Boro season.
The Department of Food has been procuring Boro rice and paddy since
May last and the process continues in full swing everywhere in the
region. It will continue till September 30 next, food office sources
said.
The government has fixed a target of procuring 77,836 tonnes of rice
and 18,271 tonnes of paddy from 10 S-W districts of Khulna division at
the rates of Taka 18.50 per kg for paddy and Tk 29 per kg for rice
during this season.
As per the fixed target, 17,603 tonnes of rice and 5,312 tonnes of
paddy will be procured from Jessore, 2,075 tonnes of rice and 1,339
tonnes of paddy from Narail, 12,353 tonnes of rice and 2,463 tonnes of
paddy from Jhenaidah, 4,676 tonnes of rice and 1,069 tonnes of paddy
from Magura, 16,818 tonnes of rice and 1,117 tonnes of paddy from
Chuadanga.
Besides, 920 tonnes of rice and 704 tonnes of paddy from Meherpur,
9,071 tonnes of rice and 2,279 tonnes of paddy from Satkhira, 1,324
tonnes of rice and 1,471 tonnes of paddy from Bagerhat and 8,220
tonnes of rice and 1,352 tonnes of paddy from Khulna district.
Narail district Food Controllers Enayet Hossain Mullah told BSS that
the millers have been supplying satisfactory quantity of rice and
paddy to the godowns everyday.
