BPL 2019 likely to be delayed by a week

Dhaka— This year’s Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 cricket bonanza may be delayed by a week. Chairman of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 Cricket Sheikh Sohel said the most popular domestic cricket event BPL might be delayed by a week.

“If any crisis arrives along the way, the BPL might be delayed by a week or 10 days,” Sohel told the media on Thursday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium after a meeting of the BPL Governing Council.

BPL was originally scheduled to be played from December 6. But this schedule might be changed in the next meeting of BPL Governing Council.

“We had discussions with some parties today, who are interested to sponsor BPL teams. We tried to understand their background and explain to them what a team sponsor will get from BPL as well,” Mahbub Anam, the other board director told reporters.

This year’s BPL will be dedicated to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, as declared by BCB earlier.

There will be no franchises this year. BCB has said this year’s competition will be held under its own auspices.

“The team sponsor will pay the sponsorship fee to BCB and the board will operate all teams. However, they will get the chance to come up with any suggestions to create a strong team,” Mahbub further told the media.

As of today, BCB talked to four parties who are interested to sponsor of BPL teams.

However, they are yet to get the confirmation from BCB to get the sponsorship. Sheikh Sohel told the media that the BCB will finalize matters in the next board meeting.UNB
