BPL Football: Dhaka Abahani take solo lead beating Arambagh 2-1

Dhaka – A double strike by national striker Nabib Newas Zibon enabled defending champions Dhaka Abahani Limited to take the solo lead in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football beating Arambagh KS by 2-1 goal in the 6th round match at the Rofiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh on Tuesday.

With the day’s feat, Dhaka Abahani Ltd secured highest 15 points from six matches toppling joint league leader Bashundhara Kings, which bagged full 12 points from straight four matches with all-win run.

Arambagh KS bagged nine points from six matches with three wins and three defeats.

Promising national striker Nabib Newas Zibon, who opened the account with a hat-trick against Rahmatganj MFS, today (Tuesday) maintained his outstanding show scoring both the goals for Abahani in the 32nd and 38th minute to share the top slot in the scorer list with Muktijoddha’s Ivory Coast forward Ballo Famoussa, scoring five goals each.

Arifur Rahman netted the lone goal for Arambagh KS in the 14th minute.

Arambagh took lead at their home ground in the 14th minute when a casual shot of their forward Arifur Rahman entered the Abahani net, slipping from the grip of custodian Shahidul Alam Sohel (1-0).

However, Zibon rescued Abahani from an awkward situation scoring two quick goals in a span of only six minutes (2-1).

In the day’s other match, Sheikh Jama Dhanmondi Club defeated Brothers Union Club by 1-0 goal at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital with Shakawat scoring in the very 2nd minute.

By virtue of the victory, Sheikh Jamal DC bagged 10 points from six matches to share the 3rd slot with Sheikh Russel KC and Saif SC.
