Budget only has political risks: Muhith

Defending his Tk 2,22,490 huge budget for fiscal 2013-14, Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Friday said there exists no risk other than political one in implementation it.“There exists only one political risk which is related with the trial of war criminals,” said the Finance Minister, adding that the tension between Awami League and BNP over the form of the interim government will be resolved for sure.
He said this at a post-budget press conference at the Osmani Auditorium.
“Although the nation is united over the trial of war criminals, one malefactor group – Jamaat – has been trying to foil it. That’s the only risk. The dispute over the next interim government is resolvable. Dialogues will be held. Resolutions will be reached out,” said Muhith in response to a volley of queries regarding the risks in implementing the huge budget.
Referring to criticisms against the budget, he said the budget is exaggerated, but implementable at the same time.
Noting that AL will enjoy a fare stake in any tentative form of the interim government before the national election, the Finance Minister said the current government will be able to take part in the budget implementation for at least half of the fiscal.
“The ADP (annual development programme) budget implementation rate by the first six months of the fiscal will surpass that of the previous fiscal. It was 32 percent during the first six months of the previous fiscal. We’ll surely see a better implementation this fiscal,” he said.
Planning Minister AK Khandker, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, Bangladesh Bank Governor Atiur Rahman and National Board of Revenue Chairman Golam Hossain also spoke on the occasion.( Source: UNB)
