Budget to benefit both rich and poor, says Tofail Ahmed

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Saturday said that the recent national budget will benefit everyone, from the rich to the poor.

Speaking as the chief guest of a zakat distribution ceremony in Sadar upazila’s Charsamia union, he said that investment and export will increase, alongside significant improvement in the country’s communications system, healthcare and power sector development, which will generate 20,000 MW electricity by December.

The minister refuted BNP leader Barrister Moudud Ahmed’s recent statement about the proposed national budget placed in the parliament on June 7, saying that he (Moudud) did not go through the budget properly.

“This budget was made with poverty alleviation and social security in mind,” Tofail mentioned, “the poverty level during BNP’s tenure was 46% while during the current government’s rule, it had come down to 22%.

The BNP leader had cited the budget as a “big blue balloon which is empty”, it will not help ensure people’s welfare as it was made only considering the next general election.

Tofail observed that as the budget will act as a breakthrough to realise the country’s seventh Five Year Plan, which will help establish Bangabandhu’s Sonar Bangla.

During the programme, Chairman of Bhola Zila Parishad Abdul Momin Tulu, Sadar Upazila Chairman Mosharraf Hossain, Vice Chairman Md Yunus and others were also present during the occasion.
