Farmers have achieved a bumper Aus crop production of 75,372 tonnes clean rice in
Rangpur Agriculture Region in the current season.
“Farmers are showing more interest in Aus farming in recent years following various
government subsidies, incentives and motivational activities,” horticulture specialist of
the Department of the DAE Khandker Mesbahul Islam said.
The farmers have completed Aus harvest on 26,500 hectares brought under its farming
against the fixed target of 27,111 hectares to produce 63,779 tonnes rice in all eight
districts in the region.
According to the DAE sources, the government had fixed a target of producing 63,521
tonnes clean high yielding variety Aus rice from 26,913 hectares and 258 tonnes local
variety Aus rice from 198 hectares this season in Rangpur region.
However, farmers have produced 63,559 tonnes high yielding variety Aus rice from
23,172 hectares, 593 tones local variety Aus rice from 415 hectares and additional 10,291
tonnes hybrid variety Aus rice from 2,913 hectares this season.
They have produced 35,974 tonnes clean Aus rice from 11,998 hectares in Rangpur,
16,315 tonnes from 6,500 hectares in Dinajpur, 10,632 tonnes from 3,375 hectares in
Lalmonirhat and 5,968 tonnes from 2,206 hectares in Thakurgaon this time.
They have also produced 2,373 tonnes Aus rice from 935 hectares in Nilphamari, 1,390
tonnes from 660 hectares in Kurigram, 1,353 tonnes from 555 hectares in Gaibandha and
438 tonnes from 271 hectares land in Panchagarh under the region.
The average yield rate of Aus crop stood at 2.81 tonnes clean rice per hectare including
3.53 tonnes per hectare for hybrid, 2.74 tonnes for high yielding and 1.43 tonnes clean
rice per hectare for local varieties this season, the DAE sources added.
Talking to BSS, additional director of the DAE Sikander Ali expressed satisfaction over
the Aus production this season in Rangpur region and said the government has been
encouraging the farmers for its enhanced farming during the off-season periods. BSS,
