Bumper Boro harvest expected in southwest

Bumper production of Boro paddy is expected in the ten southwestern
districts of Khulna division in the current season, Department of
Agricultural Extension (DAE) sources said.The ten districts are- Jessore, Narail, Jhenidah, Magura, Kushtia,
Chuadanga, Meherpur, Satkhira, Khulna and Bagerhat.
Agricultural Extention Depertment (AED) sources said, a total of
5,88,555 hectares of land were brought under Boro cultivation in ten
districts under Khulna division this year with the production target
of 23.39 lakh tonnes of paddy in the region.
The officials of DAE, particularly sub-assistant agriculture officers
in field level, are motivating the farmers to cultivate Irri-Boro
paddy on a large scale to meet its demand for ensuring food security
and to make the growers economically benefited as well.
Additional Director of DAE Abdul Mannan said the farmers are also
being imparted training on Irri-Boro farming by the DAE to make the
programme a grand success.
Necessary steps have been taken to ensure supply of adequate quantity
of improved quality seeds, fertilisers, insecticides and other
agricultural inputs among the growers in fair prices to boost Boro
production, said DAE Narail deputy director (DD) Chabi Hari Das.
