Bumper Boro production in Faridpur

A bumper production of Boro paddy, the major food crop in the district, was achieved after the harvesting period has just concluded.
According to District Agriculture Extension office sources, different varieties of Boro was cultivated on 36788 hectares of land though the target was 36701 this season. A total 175154 metric tons of clean rice is expected from the land with average per acre yield of 4.76 tones clean rice.The varieties, which were cultivated, are: Hi-breed on 768 hectares that produced 4285 tonnes, HYV on 34400 hectares that produced 167872 tonnes and local variety on 1620 hectares that produced 2997 tonnes.Of these, Boro was cultivated on 6444 hectares in Faridpur Sadar upazilla, 1437 hectares in Char Bhadrasan upazilla, 4434 hectares in Nagarkanda upazilla, 3043 hectares in Saltha upazilla, 3716 hectares in Sadarpur upazilla, 5406 hectares in Bhanga upazilla, 3305 hectares in Madhukhali upazilla, 6001 hectares in Boalmari upazilla and 3002 hectares in Alfadanga upazilla.The sources said 170121 tonnes of Boro was produced last season cultivating 39841 hectares of land with per acre yield of 4.27 tones clean rice. Per acre yield is slightly higher this season due to favorable climatic condition, availability of agricultural inputs and satisfactory electric supply, the sources added. -BSS, Faridpur
