Bumper green chilli production expected in Panchagarh

Farmers of Boda and Debiganj upazilas of the district are expecting a bumper production of green chilli this season.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said 9,700 hectares of land have been brought under the green chilli cultivation in the area with the production target of 15,326 tonnes of chilli.In recent year, the farmers are cultivating chilli with much enthusiasm and keen interest as they are getting bumper production of the variety and earning money from the cultivation.The price of green chilli is being sold at Taka 850 to 900 Per mound in the local market. Farmers are happy after getting fair price.Modern cultivation methods, distribution of high quality seed to the farmers, availability of fertilisers, need base training and ensuring irrigation facilities including other agriculture inputs to the growers at fair prices are the main reason for boosting production of chilli in the areas.  Farmer Sunil Kumar of Sobouspara village under Debiganj upazila said I have cultivated green chilli on two bigha of land and I harvested 10 mound of chilli from one bigha of land in a week. I have earned Taka 9,000 by selling this.  Deputy director of DAE Md, Najrul Islam told BSS that high land is best for cultivation of chilli.The department has supplied high yielding chilli seeds, fertilisers, insecticide and other agri technology support for bumper production of chilli in the area. -BSS, Panchagarh
