Bumper winter vegetables likely in Netrakona

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has taken a massive plan to cultivate winter vegetables in ten upazilas of the district during the current Rabi season.

Farmers and officials of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) are expecting a bumper production of winter vegetables in the district during the season.

DAE sources said a total of 4,643 hectares of land were brought under the cultivation programmes with a production target of 86,828 tonnes of vegetables.

The vegetables include brinjal, potato, radish, ladies finger, tomato, cauliflower, cabbage, bean, carrot, cucumber, lalshak, palongshak and arum.

The farmers are showing their keen interest and working round the clock for cultivating vegetables on the more lands during the current season than the previous years as they earned much profit with meeting their family demand.

Following the interest of the farmers, the crops specialists of the DAE and it’s filed-level officials have already started rendering their service to encourage the vegetable cultivators, the deputy director of the DAE Kazi Nurul Islam said.

The cultivators have already cultivated vegetables on 3,250 hectors of land out of the targeted land and they would be able to fulfill the target within a few days, the deputy director added.

Meanwhile, the early harvest of the winter vegetables like cauliflower, cabbage, radish, arum, arum thus, bean. tomato and potato also made the farmers happy, as they are getting better prices at the beginning of the season. -BSS, Netrakona
