Bus carrying Indian opera troupe crash, 25 killed

New Delhi — Police say a bus carrying members of an opera troupe plunged into a gorge in an India forest, killing at least 25 people and leaving another 11 critically injured. Press Trust of India reports that the bus was traveling Sunday evening in a hilly region of the state of Orissa, and was attempting a sharp turn when it fell 76 meters (250 feet) off the road.
PTI quotes Deogarh Police Superintendent Sarah Sharma as saying “25 bodies have so far been been recovered” out of about 40 passengers.
She reportedly said that firefighters and police had to use floodlights in the rescue operation. Eleven people rescued from the wreckage are in critical condition at Deogarh hospital. – AP/UNB
