Members of the travelling public fell into immense sufferings as buses and launches on almost all inter-district routes were suddenly suspended ahead of BNP scheduled rally in capital Dhaka on Monday.
The problem becamse acute for office-goers who went to visit their relatives for the 3-day holiday on account of weekend and the holy Miladun Nabi. Passengers from different districts told journalists they are very much concerned that they would not be able to get back to Dhala and joint their places of work.The bus and launch owners associations on Sunday decided to suspend the movement of all modes of buses and launches ‘because of thin presence of passengers’ fearing destructive activities centering the public meeting on January 5 in the capital.
“We have decided not to ply any passenger bus from Dhaka to Barisal due to thin presence of Dhaka-bound passengers,” Aftab Hossain, president of passengers’ transport owners association, told journalists after a meeting with the transport owners and employees here.
The deputy police commissioner of Barisal Metropolitan Police Soeb Ahmed said launch owners suspended the movement of their launches apprehending bomb attacks on their water vessels.
Barisal city unit joint-secretary of BNP Anowrul Haque Tarin said leaders and activists of Barisal city unit of BNP would not go to Dhaka for the rally tomorrow. “We will hold rally here,” he said. – News Desk
