Dhaka, Apr 10 (UNB) – Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon on Wednesday said buses in capital Dhaka and adjoining areas will run on 22 routes under six companies, apparently to bring discipline on roads.
He came up with the announcement at a briefing after a meeting at the Nagar Bhaban.
The DSCC mayor said the six companies will operate their buses using as many colours — pink, orange, green, purple, maroon and blue.
“We want to pay highest respects to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by bringing back safety and discipline on roads within 2020 when his birth centenary will be celebrated,” he said.
Khokon expressed the hope that it will be possible to implement all the programmes to be taken to bring back discipline on roads by this time.
He also said a feasibility study will be carried out to introduce circular bus service on Jatrabari-Sadarghat route.
Principal Coordinator (SDG Affairs) of the Prime Minister’s Office Abul Kalam Azad, Local Government Division Secretary Shafiqul Islam, Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary Nazrul Islam, Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation Chairman Farid Uddin, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority Chairman Moshiur Rahman and leaders of transport associations attended the meeting.
