Dhaka – Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said on Monday the attackers walked into Holey Artisan Bakery carrying firearms in their backpacks.
“We’ve collected video footages from all the CC cameras in the area and found the militants entering the café on foot in two to three groups carrying firearms in their backpacks, not in cars,” he said responding to a question while talking to reporters at the Secretariat.
The attackers could not escape due to prompt action by law enforcers, said the minister.
Responding to another question about some media reports over his comment that he was aware of the attack beforehand, the minister said, “I didn’t say that…I said the law enforcers had apprehended such attacks but it was not known to them when and where the attack would be carried out,” he said.
The law enforcers remained alert since then and managed to reach the spot immediately, he said.
Responding to another question, the minister said the proposal approved by the Cabinet to amend the existing “Treaty between Bangladesh and India relating to extradition” will not be applicable for bringing back BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed from India as he is an accused in both countries.
“He will be brought back to Bangladesh after India completes his trial,” he said.
The Cabinet approved on Monday a proposal to amend the existing “Treaty between Bangladesh and India relating to extradition” for simplifying the existing extradition process of accused between the two countries following the appeal of Indian government.
The home minister said both India and Bangladesh can now extradite any accused for trial if any court of the two countries issues warrant for his/her arrest.
