Campuses now ‘danger zones’ for students: BNP

Dhaka Oct 01 – BNP on Thursday said that the university and college campuses in the country have become ‘danger zones’ for general students due to ‘unruly’ activities by Chhatra League and Jubo League members.

“The campuses of universities and colleges have now turned into danger zones for general students as Chhatra League and Jubo League workers have offices there now,” said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Speaking at a human-chain programme, he said, “Parents are now afraid of sending their children, especially girls, to the campuses due to the unruly activities of Chhatra League and Jubo League.”
Dhaka north city unit BNP arranged the programme in front of the Jatiya Press Club protesting the spread of ‘false’ campaign against party founder Ziaur Rahman.
Protesting the attack on the electioneering of BNP candidate Salahuddin Ahmed in Dhaka-5 by-polls, Rizvi said the ruling party is letting loose its ‘cadres’ to foil democratic and electoral programmes as it does not believe in democracy.
“The ruling party men are cowards. They repress women, attack people and indulge in hooliganism. They’ll hide into holes the day they’ll lose the state power and police support,” he said.
The BNP leader said a drama styled ‘Indemnity’ was made ‘distorting’ history to defame Ziaur Rahman and confuse people.
He warned that those who wrote and made the drama to appease the current ‘undemocratic’ government going against the public sentiment will surely be put on trial someday. “They must be tried on Bangladesh’s spoil.” – UNB
