The government has taken an initiative to implement capital dredging projects in the country’s big and important rivers at a cost of Tk 50,000 crore, Water Resources Minister Ramesh Chandra Sen told Parliament on Sunday.There are six projects under the capital dredging plan, the minister informed the House while responding to a starred question from Nasimul Alam Chowdhury (Comilla-8).
He said a study, titled ‘Capital Dredging and Sustainable River Management in Bangladesh’ under the ‘Capital (Pilot) Dredging of River System in Bangladesh Project’, has been undertaken, he said adding that the study is expected to be completed by August this year.
Ramesh Chandra also said another survey, titled ‘Main River Flood and Bank Erosion Risk Management’, with financial support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is going on.
The government will take next course of action to check river bank erosion on the basis of suggestions to come from the survey, he added. banglanews24.com
