Case against Latif Siddiqui dismissed

A Dhaka court on Thursday summarily dismissed a case hours after it was filed against Textiles and Jute Minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui.   Supreme Court lawyer Gazi Quamrul Islam Sajal filed the case with the Chief Judicial Magistrate in the morning for threatening to kill those who would call hartal.
After hearing, Metropolitan Magistrate M Hasibul Haque outright dismissed the case around 3pm, saying the court does not think the complainant is under threat as he does not call hartal. “He has no authority to file the case.”
In his case statement, Sajal said the Textiles and Jute Minister at a mourning rally at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre on August 16 told his party activists, “If anyone calls hartal further, you have to kill them entering their houses. Our activists wait for leader’s order. I’m saying this is my last speech. If anyone calls hartal anymore, you have to kill them storming into their houses.”
Describing him as an activist of the nationalist force, the complainant said he filed the case as he takes part in various anti-government programmes. – UNB
