Dhaka, July 22- A case was filed on Monday with the Dhaka Cyber Tribunal against Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Sayedul Haque Suman on charge of making derogatory remarks about the Hindu community in a Facebook post.Guatam Kumar, a social worker and a resident of the city’s Bhashantek, filed the case against Barrister Suman yesterday noon.
After recording plaintiff’s statement, Judge Ash Shams Jaglul Hossain of the Dhaka Cyber Tribunal directed the officer-in-charge of Bhasantec Police Station to investigate the matter and submit a probe report within 30 days.
Advocate Sumon Kumar Roy, appeared before the tribunal on behalf of the petitioner.
According to the allegations brought in the case, Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman made disparaging comments against the Hindu community in a Facebook post on July 19. His comments not only damaged the image of Hindu society but also hurt the religious sentiments of many. Such remarks can also provoke violence, disrupting the law and order situation in the country.
The petitioner said that Suman on July 19 gave a Facebook post demeaning the Hindu religion. The barrister has made “false and objectionable” statement on Hindu religion, the petitioner alleged.
On the other hand, talking to this correspondent, Barrister Suman said that he had already filed a general dairy with Shahbagh Police station on May 28 this year stating that some fake facebook pages had been opened using his name.
“I did not make any comments against Hindu Community. The comment was circulated from the fake facebook page. This was made only to harass me” he added.
However, Suman said that following the filing of the case against me now it is proved that minority in Bangladesh is not under any threat. They have able to apply their every right in this country, he noted.
Recently Barrister Suman got praise from the country’s common people after filing separate cases including against former officer-in-charge (OC) Moazzem under the Digital Security Act following the death of Nusrat Jahan Rafi and over the irregularities of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.
