A Dhaka court on Monday deferred the hearing on charge framing in a case filed against 23 BNP leaders and activists, including the party’s Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to October 22.

Magistrate Atiqur Rahman of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka fixed the new date in response to a petition seeking time, on behalf of the defence.

Advocate Joynal Abedin Mesba moved the petition as Mirza Fakhrul Islam was outside the country yesterday.

The case was filed for vandalism and arson on March 2, 2013, in front of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College on Bailey Road in the city, during a BNP-led alliance’s agitation programme. SI Ashraf Ali of Shahjahanpur Police Station lodged the case.

On March 20, 2013, Detective Branch SI Ruhul Amin Munshi submitted the charge sheet of the case to the court against the 23 accused including Murza Fakhrul, Barrister Moudud, Mirza Abbas Amanullah Aman.
