Bangladesh Nationalist Party has expressed its concern over not getting of justice in the ongoing two much hyped cases against party chairperson and former premier Khaleda Zia.
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed the concern at a press conference at party headquarters at Naya Paltan in the city.
He warned that they would take to the streets and launch movement if Zia Charitable Trust and Zia Orphanage Trust corruption cases are not withdrawn.The BNP leader alleged that the government had filed the cases with an ill political motive to undermine Khaleda Zia and keep her away from politics.
“In one hand, we will carry out the legal battle showing respect to the law of the land, one the other hand, we will continue movement in the streets over the issue,” he said.
He criticised the government for changing the judge of the special court set up earlier to conduct the cases. “The transfer of special court judge Basudev before disposal of a writ petition filed in this connection proved that there is a political move behind it,” he added.
Terming the cases filed against Khaleda Zia “false and baseless”, Mirza Fakhrul said the government is desperately trying to complete the trials quickly despite of backlog of thousands of cases now pending with the courts.
“If there is justice in the country, such cases would not have been running,” he added.
BNP standing committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah said it is understable that the government decision to transfer a judge of the special court they are interfering also in the judiciary.
It is direct interference in the judiciary and contrary to the rules and regulations of judiciary. It appears seemed that the possibility of getting justice by Khaleda Zia from court has been becoming narrower.
