Dhaka, Feb 24 – A cement-laden trawler capsized in the Panguchhi River in Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat district, near the eastern fringe of the Sundarbans early Friday.Rashedul Alam, officer-in-charge of Morelganj Police Station, said that the Bagerhat bound ‘Ma Fatema’ trawler from Mongla carrying 1,225 sacks of cement and two people, including trawler owner Shahidul Islam, sank in the river early in the morning.
Shahidul and the other man managed to swim shore but Shahidul sustained injuries.
The injured was admitted to Morelganj Upazila Health Complex.
The trawler capsized as a rope of the trawler tore due to strong current while unloading 75 sacks of cement of a trader at Morelganj Launch Ghat area, added the OC.
The fire fighters are trying to salvage the capsized trawler. – UNB
