Central bank opens digitisation programme

Finance Minister AMA Muhith, on behalf of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Saturday inaugurated the digitisation programme of Bangladesh Bank at a function at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC).The Prime Minister was scheduled to inaugurate the programme. But she did not attend it as she was busy with state business, according to the announcers.

As part of the vision to build a poverty-free, digital Bangladesh through automation and financial inclusion in the banking sector, the central bank took up the programme, titled `Building Digital Bangladesh: Initiatives by Bangladesh Bank’.

The Finance Minister formally inaugurated at the function a total of 19 technology-based operations which the Bangladesh Bank already launched on different occasions as part of its banking sector modernisation and financial inclusion.

The new operations include Bangladesh Automated Clearing House (BACH); online CBI service; banking application; enterprise resource planning (ERP); e-tendering; e-recruitment; e-commerce; online dashboard reporting system; national payment systems; large loan monitoring software; import, export and remittance monitor; customer interest protection centre; agro-loan for sharecropper; mobile banking; school banking; and green banking, Muhith will also inaugurate the central bank’s initiative to collect arts and unveil the memorial coins and bank notes, and laid foundation stone of the Notes’ Museum.

Speaking on the occasion, the Finance Minister said that in the last four years the economy of the country faced several challenges successfully.

About the recent Savar tragedy, Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman said this can not acceptable by any means just for violation of rules and regulations by some reckless and greedy people.UNB
