The Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka on Tuesday framed charges against schoolgirl Oishee Rahman and two of her friends- Rony and Jony in the case filed for killing her parents- Special Branch Inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Swapna Rahman last year.
Judge Md Jahurul Haque of the court passed the order in his crowded courtroom in presence of the accused including Oishee after a long hearing. However, all the three accused pleaded not guilty.Detective Wings of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on March 9 submitted the charge sheet accusing Oishee as the key suspect and three others over the murder of Oishee’s parents. Abul Khayer Matabbar, Investigation Officer (IO) of the case submitted a charge sheet against Oishee and her friends while a separate charge sheet was submitted accusing housemaid Khadiza Akter Sumi. She was accused of conniving to murder in the charge sheet. However, police said she was not directly involved with the murder but she had aided Oishee.
According to the charge sheet, Oishee gave her parents coffee mixing 60 sleeping pills to her parents. Oishee also made confessional statement in the court, accepting she killed her parents, the charge sheet says.
On August 16 last year, police recovered the decomposed bodies of Mahfuzur Rahman and Swapna Rahman from their Chamelibagh house in the city. Oishee, with her younger brother and their housemaid Sumi left the house the day before the bodies were found. He brother was sent back to the house the next day. Later, Oishee with Sumi surrendered to the city’s Paltan Police Station.
Police confirmed Oishee’s involvement in the murder conducting DNA test on her ornaments and blood-stained dress she left at the house.
Earliler, police came under strong criticism for taking underage Oishee on remand. The debate led to medical examination of Oishee for determining her age. Later, physicians at Dhaka Medical College confirmed Oishee was nearly 19 years old.
Meanwhile, May 20, the First Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka as a Juvenile Court will hear on charge framing against juvenile Sumi. – Court Correspondent
