Dhaka – The Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka on Tuesday framed charge against former chief of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) Moulana Saidur Rahman in a case lodged for creating subversive activities in 2010.Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah of court today framed charges against Saidur Rahman and two others in the case filed under the Anti Terrorism Act. Two others are: Abdullah Hel Kafi, ehsar (full-time) member of the banned militant outfit and his wife Ayesha Akhter, also an ehsar of JMB.
Saidur Rahman now in jail custody, pleaded not guilty and demanded justice after the Judge of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court framed charges against him.
Kafi and Ayesha went into hiding after getting bail from the Higher Court. Charges were framed against the couple in absentia. The court fixed March 15 to record the depositions of the witnesses in the case.
On May 25, 2010, police arrested Saidur Rahman and two others from a residence adjacent to Nur Mosque in the city’s East Dania area. During the raids, the cops recovered a huge cache of bomb-making materials, firearms and ammunition and Jihadi (religious) books.
Later, a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act was filed against Saidur Rahman and two others with Kadamtoli Police Station. According to the prosecution, Saidur Rahman and others had planned to create anarchy among the people, committing subversive activities across the country.
After an investigation into the case, police submitted the charge sheet of the case against Saidur Rahman and two others on October 23 of the same year. Earlier, Saidur Rahman was also indicted in two more cases filed under Anti Terrorism Act which are now pending with two other courts for trial. – Special Correspondent
