Charge framing in cases against Khaleda March 28

Dhaka – The Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka on Tuesday deferred charge framing in 11 cases including one of sedition against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to March 28.

Judge Kamrul Hossain Molla of the court passed the order after hearing on Khaleda Zia’s counsel’s plea seeking more time. The BNP Chairperson did not appear in the court citing her illness.

On January 25, 2016, Supreme Court lawyer Dr Mumtaz Uddin Ahmed Mehedi lodged a case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka for her alleged derogatory comment over the number of martyrs in the War of Liberation of 1971.

Besides, police filed eight cases against the BNP Chief in 2015 for her alleged involvement in sabotaging activities throughout the country. Jatrabari Police Station Sub-Inspector KM Nuruzzaman filed another case under the Explosive Substances Act on January 24, 2015.

The other accused in the case lodged with Jatrabari Police Station are- Standing Committee Member MK Anwar, Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Joint Secretary General Habib-un- Nabi Khan Sohel, former Joint Secretary General Amanullah Aman, Barkatullah Bulu, Chairperson’s Adviser Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, Shawkat Mahmood , Chairperson’s Press Secretary Maruf Kamal Khan Sohel and Chairperson’s Special Assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas. – Special Correspondent
