Charge Sheet against Tarique, Salam in sedition case

Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Emdadul Haque of police on Tuesday submitted the charge sheet of a sedition case against four persons, including BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman former chairman of ETV Abdus Salam.Other two accused persons are- ETV’s former chief reporter Mahatir Faruqi Khan and Kanak Sarwar, a special correspondent of the channel.
DB Inspector Emdadul Haque submitted the charge sheet yesterday (Tuesday). Following the home ministry’s clearance, SI Borhanuddin filed the case with Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station on January 8, 2015. Earlier, on January 5 of the same year, ETV had broadcast Tarique Rahman’s speech from London live.
Only Tarique and Salam were made accused in the First Information Report (FIR), later, the names of Faruqi Khan and Sarwar were included in the charge sheet. Of the accused, Salam is in the jail custody while others still fugitives. Inspector Emdadul Haque, who is also the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case pleaded for their warrant of arrest.
Police Prosecution Wing’s Deputy Commissioner Md Anisur Rahman said, the charge sheet will be evaluated produced to the court on September 29 for decision.
The case docket says, Salam in collusion with others of ETV telecast Tarique’s speech that created attempted to create anarchic situation as it involved the Chief Justice, army and law enforcers. The police accused Tarique and Salam of “Threatening Bangladesh’s sovereignty and tried to create hatred against a legally constituted government by telecasting and dishing out false and fabricated information.” -Special Correspondent
