China eager to help Dhaka, Yangon to end Rohingya crisis

Dhaka, May 16 – China is eager to facilitate communication between Bangladesh and Myanmar to find a practical solution to the Rohingya crisis.
Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh Zhang Zuo yesterday asserted that China is willing to play a constructive role to realize repatriation of displaced people and will facilitate communication between Bangladesh and Myanmar to find a practical solution of the crisis.
The assurance came when Zhang paid a courtesy call on foreign minister AK Abdul Momen at the latter’s office, a press release said.
While appreciating Chinese humanitarian assistance for the displaced people of Rakhine State, Foreign Minister Dr. Momen sought China’s strong support so that Myanmar moves in the right direction for
resolving Rohingya crisis.
Foreign Minister and Ambassador Zhang shared their concerns that protracted presence of Rohingyas in Bangladesh may disrupt the regional peace and stability as vested quarters are trying to radicalise the displaced people and therefore they underscored the need of early repatriation of the displaced people.
Chinese Ambassador deeply appreciated proactive engagement of Foreign Minister to promote bilateral relations to a newer height. Ambassador Zhang underlined the importance of the bilateral consultation
mechanisms to steer the practical cooperation between the two countries.
Foreign Minister also appreciated the fact that many bilateral instruments worth billions of dollar investment were signed during Xi Jinping’s visit to Bangladesh in 2016 when bilateral relationship was elevated to strategic partnership. – Staff Reporter
