Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka Li Jun on Sunday said both Bangladeshi and China should strengthen cooperation between their militaries and law enforcement departments to ensure their respective national security and stability.
He said both the countries are ‘victims of terrorism and extremism’, and such cooperation and exchanges will help promote ‘peace and stability’ in the region.
“No development could be achieved without a sound security situation,” he said delivering his speech on ‘China’s Comprehensively Deepening Reform and its Global Impact – A New Opportunity for China-Bangladesh Cooperation’ at the North South University.NSU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Amin Sarkar and Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Meshqat Uddin were present.
The Chinese diplomat mentioned that the Chinese dream of national renewal is about the pursuit of happiness by every Chinese, and it has much in common with the dream of the people in Bangladesh, as it is on the way to achieve the goal of becoming middle-income country by 2021 and developed country by 2041.
“I’m confident that with joint efforts of our two countries, China and Bangladesh will realise their dreams in the future,” Li Jun added.
The envoy said Chinese accumulated aid to Bangladesh reached US$ 1 billion at the end of 2013. “Six friendship bridges in Bangladesh have been built, and the seventh is under way.”
Highlighting the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar –Economic Corridor (BCIM-EC), Li Jun said the four countries agreed that the priorities of BCIM-EC should focus on, among other things — regional connectivity, including transportation, telecommunication, and power and energy, trade and investment, sustainable development and people-to-people exchange.
“Therefore, I think China and Bangladesh should intensify interaction and cooperation with each other,” he said adding that with stronger mutual trust, both the countries could promote the building of BCIM-EC more effectively. – UNB
