Dhaka – The Chinese Communist Party delegation on Thursday said in Dhaka that their 19th national congress held recently aimed to build socialism based on Chinese characteristics by the middle of the current century developing itself in partnership of the rest of the world with no hegemonic ambitions.Addressing a thematic briefing on the CPC congress leader of the delegation, Chinese International Department Assistant Minister Wang Yajun said that the Chinese achievement of the goal of a happy life for its citizens was still inadequate as these have so far got the basic needs of food and shelter.
He said that the Chinese Communist Party has resolved to pursue a mutually beneficial and peaceful process of development for china and the rest of the world. The road and belt initiative of China has been decises to promote partnership and where needed extend Chinese help.
Ex-Minister Col (retd) Farukh Khan who also spoke at the briefing representing Bangladesh sought Chinese help to ensure repatriation of Rohingya refugees back to Myanmar. He said like China Bangladesh also wanted improvement of the lot of its people peacefully in partnership with close neighbours.
Thje head of the Chinese delegation made mention of their the commitment to combat climate change. China has also been vigorously fighting corruption, he added
The briefing was attended a large number of political leaders, business magnets. members of the intelligentsia and cultural workers.
Tn Thursday night the delegation of the Communist Party of China (CPC) met BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and discussed the Rohingya issue.
The six-member CPC team, led by its International Department Assistant Minister Wang Yajun, went to the BNP chief’s Gulshan office around 7pm and held nearly an hour-long meeting with her.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said their chairperson talked to the delegation about the Rohingya problem.
“She (Khaleda) told them (CPC delegation) that China can play the role of a mediator in resolving the Rohingya crisis,” he said.
The BNP chief also requested the Chinese leaders to take effective steps so that Rohingyas can go back to their own country immediately, Fakhrul added.
In reply, he said, the CPC leaders said their country is working to resolve the problem and ensure a safe return of Rohingyas to their country by maintaining good relations with the two neighbouring countries.
Fakhrul said their chairperson hoped that the relations between China and Bangladesh will be consolidated further in the days to come.
Apart from Fakhrul, BNP standing committee member Mahbubur Rahman, chairperson’s advisers Reaz Rahman and Sabihuddin Ahmed were present at the meeting. – Staff Reporter and UNB
