City shopping mall fire kills 4

Four people were killed and six others injured after a fire broke out at a shopping mall in the city’s Uttara area on Friday evening. The deceased could not be identified yet. Sources at the Fire Service central control room said the fire broke out on the ground floor of Alauddin Tower Shopping Complex around 6:15pm soon after a lift collapse.

On information, 13 firefighting units rushed in and brought the fire under control around 7:15pm. The four people were killed as a chunk of wall fell on them under the impact of the lift collapse, the sources said. Six people also suffered burn injuries in the incident. Dhaka, UNB News Agency Reported.

Three of the injured — Mahmudul Hasan, 36, Mayisha, 20, and her eight-month-old son Mustakim — were said to be of one family. They were taken to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Their condition was stated to be critical as they suffered burns on 80 percent, 55 percent and 23 percent of their bodies respectively.
