Dhaka – Namita Rani Das, mother of Rasraj who was arrested for hurting religious sentiments through an alleged Facebook post, on Friday demanded the release of her son immediately, claiming her son innocent as he was illiterate and incapable of facebook posting.
Namita at a press conference at the office of Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association( CRAB) in the capital claimed that her son was innocent. She argued that his son was an ignorant and it was not possible for Rasraj to upload a Facebook post.Raising the allegation of Facebook post which dishonours Islam, centering the incident, 15 temples and over 100 houses were vandalised and looted on October 30 in Nasirnagar of Brahmanbaria.
A several days before the incident, police arrested Rasraj, 30, of Harinber village and remanded him for five days when an allegation was raised that Rasraj dishonoured Islam through the Facebook post.
Since then Rasraj has been languishing in the jail of Nasirnagar.
After an investigation, police arrested Jahangir Alam, 30, an owner of cyber cafe for the alleged Facebook post.
On November 21, additional police super of Brahmanbaria Md Iqbal Hossain said, “Jahangir Alam is the owner of Al Amin cyber cafe at Harinber bazar. Police suspect Jahangir uploaded the picture (which dishonours Islam) by hacking the Facebook page of Rasraj.
Despite such findings, why Rasraj has still been kept in the jail, questioned leaders of Hindu Mohajote.
The jote of Hindu religion organised the press conference at the office of Crime Reporters’ Association. Family members of Rasraj joined it.
Namita Rani Das said, “My son did not know how to read and write. He catches fish with his elder brother and father in Balinga Beel”.
She also demands punishments of those who are responsible for Nasirnagar incidents, and compensation for the victims.
Rasraj’s brother Doyamay said, “Only his younger brother Palash went to school”. “We two brothers do not know how to write. Palash only read up to class three”.
Asked where they stayed on the day of attacks, Doyamay said they fled and took shelter in another place as village people alerted them in advance.
His sister’s husband Nepal said Rasraj bought a secondhand mobile for Tk 2,200 two months back. It is not possible for him to operate Facebook, he claimed. – Staff Reporter
