In a sudden move, the pro-government faction of Jatiya Party led by Rowshan Ershad yesterday ousted HM Ershad from the post party chairman appointing the leader of the opposition in Parliament as party acting chairman.The decision was taken at a meeting held at a residence in Gulshan with Rowshan Ershad in the chair a day after HM Ershad announced his younger brother GM Quader as party co-chairman.
After the meeting began at 5:30pm, JP secretary general Zaiuddin Ahmed Bablu told reporters that appointing party co-chairman by EH Ershad was violation of party constitution.
“According to section 39 of the party charter, there is no scope to announce party co-chairman,” he said in the written statement.
It also termed the election of GM Quader as convenor of party conference preparation committee and Ruhul Amin Hawlader as its member secretary also a violation of party constitution.
The new faction of Jatiya Party condemned GM Quader’s demand for resignation of JP leaders from cabinet.
Opposition chief whip Tajul Islam, Anisul Islam Mahmud, Moshiur Rahman Ranga, Kazi Firoj Rashid and Advocate Nurul Islam, among others, also attended the meeting.
